Share
Generally we search websites by search engines such as Google and Yahoo. We must access to the search engine sites and place some keywords. Today’s computer tip will let you modify your address bar to be a search engine. You can easily put the keywords in the address bar to search a website you want like a search engine. This example will make your address bar to be Google search engine but you can change it to another. Do the steps below.
  • Access to Registry Editor, running regedit.
  • Go to the path,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

  • Right click on the SearchUrl folder and select New > Key.
  • Name the key Google.
  • In the right page under the Google folder, double click on the Default key.
    SearchUrl google
  • Type the search engine website. For this example I use Google for searching websites so I type http://www.google.com/search?q=%s. Then click OK.
    Edit String Google search
  • For Yahoo you must type http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=?%s .
  • For AltaVista you must type http://www.altavista.com/q?q=%s .
  • The syntax for searching is, google keyword. To search website, put the keyword, google computerfreetricks, in address bar and then press Enter, see the picture below.
